Here is a cute little gift that’s more exciting than a card for kids to craft this Mother’s Day!
And it’s not just for mum - these can easily be adapted for gifting to grandmas, aunts, sisters, dads, or another special person.
Perfect for all celebrations or even just to brighten someone’s day!

Materials Needed:

  • Medium size piece of Wood

  • Saw, Clamp (optional, only if cutting wood to size)

  • Sandpaper

  • Camera or smartphone

  • Printer

  • Scissors

  • Glue

  • Pens, coloured pencils, paint and brushes, and other decorating materials

How to Make Your Photo Block:

  1. First take a photo of each child. The students in these photos are blowing kisses, however you can suggest they come up with a pose of their choice (eg sending a hug, giving a hi five, holding out a flower).
If you don’t have a camera or printer then another option is to get each child to bring in their favourite photo of them with their mum.

  2. Print the photo and cut it out.

  3. Select your piece of wood, making sure it is big enough to fit the photo. If desired cut it to the right length and width you want.

  4. Sand any rough corners and edges on your wood so it’s nice and smooth.

  5. .Paint your wood in mum’s favourite colours.

  6. Once the paint has dried, glue the photo on to the front of the wood.

  7. Decorate the wood! Hearts, flowers, or anything else mum may like make for great decorations.
Because these students are blowing kisses they chose to add little hearts coming out of their hands.
If you chose the “holding out a flower pose” then you could glue a flower to your photo so it looks like you really are holding a flower out for mum.

  8. Write a special message for mum on the back, and sign and date it.

  9. Keep it somewhere safe and secret until Mothers Day!

Thanks to the amazing kids at Ko Taku Reo for demonstrating this project!
